15.09.202501:21:10UTC+00India Sees Room for Sugar Exports in New Season

India, the world's second-largest sugar producer, is anticipating a surplus in sugar stocks for the season commencing October 1, which could facilitate exports, as stated by a senior government representative. Ashwini Srivastava, the Joint Secretary at the Department of Food and Public Distribution, conveyed at an international conference that there is potential for sugar exports in the upcoming season, though he did not provide specific figures. Despite a dip in production, India authorized the export of 1 million metric tons this year. Srivastava highlighted that the coming season's output appears robust, allowing for exports after satisfying domestic consumption and ethanol production requirements. Ethanol production is projected to reach an unprecedented 4.8 billion liters. Meanwhile, sugar consumption is expected to increase to between 28.5 and 29 million metric tons, up from 28 million this year, and carryover stocks are anticipated to decline to 5 million metric tons from the previous year's 8 million.
