France experienced a deceleration in its annual inflation rate, which reached 0.8% in December 2025—the lowest observed in seven months. This represents a slight reduction from the consistent 0.9% recorded in October and November, aligning with preliminary estimates. The primary factor in this moderate slowdown was a more significant year-on-year decrease in energy prices, which fell by 6.8% compared to a 4.6% decline previously. Additionally, there was a subtle reduction in service price inflation, going from 2.2% to 2.1%. Contrarily, food price inflation saw an uptick, moving from 1.4% to 1.7%, while the reduction in prices of manufactured goods slowed, with a decrease of 0.4% as opposed to 0.6%. Tobacco prices maintained a steady rise at an annual rate of 4.1%. At the same time, core inflation experienced a slight increase, rising to 1.1% from 1.0%. On a monthly scale, consumer prices saw a 0.1% increase, recovering from a 0.2% drop in November. When adjusted for EU harmonization, inflation decreased to an annual rate of 0.7%, with a corresponding monthly increase in prices of 0.1%, in line with initial projections.
